Homes with Heat Pumps: Running heat pumps during off-peak and Night Boost hours can lead to substantial savings.
Households with Flexible Lifestyles: If you can schedule expensive appliances like washing machines, dishwashers, or immersion heaters to run during the night or Night Boost, this plan offers considerable financial advantages.
Choosing the "best" Electric Ireland Smart Meter Plan depends entirely on your household's specific electricity usage patterns and lifestyle.
There's no single "best" plan for everyone.
Here's a breakdown to help you decide, based on the information provided:
Electric Ireland Smart Meter Plans
Plan
Concept
Ideal for
Consideration
Home Electric+ 24hour Plan
A flat rate, like a traditional meter, but with smart meter insights.
Households that cannot easily shift their energy usage. Ideal if you work from home or prefer not to think about time-of-use pricing.
No benefit from cheaper off-peak hours. If you can shift usage, you might miss out on savings.
Home Electric+ Night Boost Plan (and Night Boost EV)
Significantly cheaper electricity at night, especially a "super low" rate between 2–4 am. Higher day rates.
EV Drivers: Ultra-low overnight charging
Homes with heat pumps
Households with flexible schedules (dishwasher, immersion, etc.)
Higher day rates. You need to shift most usage to night hours to save.
Home Electric+ Weekender Plan
Unlimited free electricity on your chosen weekend day (Sat or Sun, 8 am – 11 pm). Flat rate for the rest of the week.
Busy families
Households that can consolidate energy use (laundry, cooking, entertainment) to one day
Must shift substantial usage to that one weekend day. If usage is even across the week, savings are limited.
Home Electric+ Standard Smart Tariff (SST)
Classic time-of-use: day, night, and a more expensive peak from 5–7 pm.
Households that avoid peak-time usage and can benefit from cheaper night rates. Good for those who want to build energy-saving habits.
Peak usage (5–7 pm) is expensive — you need to actively avoid it to benefit.
