Electric Ireland logo in blue and yellow banner

There are many different ways to contact Electric Ireland, the phone number you’ll need will differ depending on the service you are looking for. This guide contains all the necessary information to reach the correct Electric Ireland department you are looking for, instead of wasting your valuable time ringing around different departments.

For general queries when you’re not 100% sure which department you need to be directing your query to, we recommend contacting customer service. For more general enquiries, see the Electric Ireland page.

Emergency Contact Information

Electric Ireland does not deal with any electricity or gas emergencies. For electricity emergencies direct calls to ESB Networks on 1850 372 999, and for gas emergencies to Gas Networks Ireland on 1850 20 50 50.

Both numbers are available 24/7 and for emergencies that endanger the welfare of members of the public, you can also call 999 or 112.

Electric Ireland: Your phone number

An old red telephone handset and a new one

Upon moving to a new home, it is imperative that you change the contract to your name and provide a contact number. Otherwise, the meter will not be in your name, and particularly in the case of Pay As You Go meters, you could be paying off someone’s else debt on the meter.

You also won’t be able to benefit from any discounts for new Electric Ireland customers. Chances are that as with most Irish energy customers, the previous inhabitant defaulted to a standard tariff with no discount, meaning you could be out of pocket if you don’t get the contract changed to your name.

Remember to choose your supplier wisely. By switching every 12 months and analysing the different rates and tariffs you can potentially save hundreds of euros. Check out our detailed information on Electric Ireland’s rates and tariffs before making a decision.

Contact from Abroad

There is nothing worse than going on holiday or travelling for business, only to discover that something has gone wrong with your energy supply. And as we all know, 1850 numbers can't be reached from outside of Ireland. Luckily, Electric Ireland provides a number for general enquiries that you can call from abroad. The out-of-Ireland department should then be able to patch you through to the relevant department, so you can get back to the business of enjoying your trip, with peace of mind.

Get through to Electric Ireland on +353 1 8529534 from Monday to Saturday 8am-8pm. To call from abroad dial the "00", then the country code "353", then the area code "1" and the number "8529534".

File a Complaint

If for whatever reason you have a complaint that you would like resolved or acknowledged by Electric Ireland, first call their customer service department to see if they can help you with your issue. If the issue is not resolved to your satisfaction or is taking too long, you can then call back and ask to make an official complaint or do so via email. In any case, when making an official complaint via the telephone, you may be asked to send it via email or post, when it's necessary to cover all legal bases.

When making an official complaint, always ask for and note down your complaint reference number. If after escalating the complaint to an official one, two months pass and the complaint is still unresolved, you should then contact the CRU citing your complaint reference number, and they will then intercede on your behalf.
