Electricity price planning API
To encourage the integration of renewable energies into the electricity grid, demand must adapt. This is the role of smart devices, such as a connected water heater, a smart charging station, or a radiant heater with an app. The link between supply and demand is made through price, and this price must be made available to smart devices so they can control when and where adaptable energy consumption is triggered.
What does Selectra's Planning API do?
With its electricity price planning API, Selectra qualifies the consumer, then displays the price over the coming periods.
The qualification process is a simple questionnaire. Its purpose is to determine which electricity plan the consumer is subscribed to. They are asked a few questions such as their country, postal code, supplier, plan, and option. Then, their plan and option (flat rate, time of use, other) will be identified.
The price exposure for the coming periods is a JSON table with a succession of periods, composed of a start date, an end date, a price, the name of the range ("Off-peak Hours" for example).
Why does Selectra offer this API?
Selectra has been a comparison website for electricity offers since 2007. Its founders, Xavier Pinon and Aurian de Maupeou, foresaw, from the outset of market liberalization, the increasing complexity of offers, necessitating better consumer information based on pricing data. The electricity price planning API follows the same logic of simplifying a complex subject, serving the electrification of energy use.
Selectra operates in 15 countries, and benefits from a team of 50 energy market specialists who keep its websites and databases up to date in real time.
With over 100 million in revenue in 2024 and 2,000 employees, it is also a credible player to outsource the management of pricing planning issues for your service.
The company has offices in Paris, Madrid, Lyon, Rome, Tokyo, and a dozen other cities, as close as possible to its clients: energy companies, manufacturers of Home Energy Management Systems, demand response players, etc.
Which countries are covered?
Selectra's electricity price planning API initially covers France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Ireland.
The development plan calls for the addition of Japan and Austria in January 2026, followed by Portugal, the United States, Canada, New Zealand and Australia in the first half of 2026. Germany and the United Kingdom are planned for the second half of 2026.
By 2027, the company aims to cover the entire world and control all pricing and associated time slots in each country. The market in question is residential and small business, which are the only segments for which pricing is published. Larger power requirements generally have customized pricing.
