Why Are SSE Airtricity Increasing Their Electricity Prices?
SSE Airtricity cited "continued increases in network charges, the impact of wholesale energy markets and the higher cost of doing business" as reasons for the hike.
This marks the second price increase within 2025, following a 10.5% increase in April. Other suppliers including Energia and Bord Gais also announced December increases.
Network charges cover:
- Maintaining and upgrading the electricity grid
- Ensuring security of supply
- Addressing network constraints
- Investing in decarbonisation
The Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) regulates these charges.
How Will These Price Increases Affect My Bills?
The €151 annual increase to typical household bills results from higher unit rates and standing charges. Actual impact depends on individual consumption patterns.
