Advice From Cormac

How Can I Save Money on My Energy Bills?

Saving money on your energy bills can start with just a few simple changes at home:

  • Switch off standby appliances: Turn off appliances at the plug when not in use
  • Reduce water heating: Take shorter showers, lower the thermostat on your water heater, and insulate your hot water tank.
  • In the kitchen: Only boil the amount of water you need, use lids on pots and pans, and let frozen foos thaw naturally.
  • Make the most of your laundry: Wash full loads, use cold water when possible, and air-dry clothes instead of using the dryer.
  • Lighten your load: Replace your lightbulbs with energy efficient LED bulbs and turn off lights in rooms you are not using.

How Do I Decide Which Provider to Choose?

With several providers, each offering multiple tariffs, it can be confusing to know which one is the right one for you but by thinking about the following factors, you can better compare the market to find the deal you want:

  • Does the supplier offer the cheapest unit rate or best new customer discounts?
  • Do they offer fixed or variable rate price plans?
  • Does the supplier have positive reviews online? A good reputation for customer service?
  • How green is my supplier? What is their fuel mix?
  • Do they offer different means of payment? Do they have a customer app or online login portal?
  • Do they offer a pay-as-you-go service?

Above all, my advice would be to visit Selectra.ie and have a look at our price guide articles, where we can tell you which provider is the best for you and your needs.
