Is the Eir Network Down Now?
If you’re at home and you’re struggling to connect, it might be because your Eir broadband is down. However, there are a few other possibilities that might be at fault rather than just the Eir broadband network having problems. If you’re not able to get online, there are a couple of things you should try first.
What Should I Check First?
If you’ve lost your connection in the middle of something like a call or streaming a film, you should double check to see if it’s not a problem at your end to make sure you don’t call the Eir network team for no reason. Service failure can happen for many reasons, for example:
- Device Failure
Sometimes our devices can be the culprit behind not connecting. It could be that your router has stopped working suddenly or your laptop was knocked slightly that damaged the internet antenna. If you use an ethernet cable, you should make sure that too is plugged in correctly and not damaged. - Power Cut
If you have a power cut, your router will have turned off - even if it lasted for a couple of seconds. This might mean your router is still restarting and hasn’t finished loading up yet. You’ll usually be able to check this on your Eir router’s lights. - Missed Payments
Although it’s not common, you might find yourself cut off from Eir if you’ve accidentally missed a payment. You should double check your bank account and Eir account just to double check you don’t have any outstanding payments. - Unexplained Outage
Sometimes, outages happen for no reason at all for a couple of minutes or so. This means Eir might have just had a small network failure that gets back online really quickly. Although they’re frustrating at the time, they are usually only brief.

Is the Eir Broadband Down in My Area?
If you’ve tried all of that, you should check to see if the Eir broadband is down officially. If your network on your laptop or computer is down, you can use your phone or another device to access the internet to check if the Eir network is down. To check if other people are experiencing the same problem, you should use Downdetector to find out.
While on Downdetector, you should do the following:
- Find the Eir broadband service link
- The first page will tell you if there’s a problem
- Scroll down and have a look at reports
- Add your own report
Downdetector is a free service and it’s really easy to use to find out whether there’s a problem with your Eir broadband. There are also other services, but Downdetector is considered the most reputable.
Can I Check on My Eir Account If Eir Broadband Is Down?
You can also check to see if your Eir broadband is down by accessing your My Eir account or Eir Webmail account. If you have the My Eir App on your phone, you’ll be able to access all your account information and also see whether there is a fault with the Eir broadband. If you're an Eir Business customer, you can also find out the same information from using your My Eir account for businesses.

How Do I Report a Broadband Fault to Eir?
If you’re sure you have an Eir broadband fault and want to report it to Eir, you can do this a number of different ways to make sure they’re aware of the problem. The two best ways of reporting a fault to Eir is to use their online fault form or their contact number.
How Do I Fill in the Eir Broadband Fault Form?
You’ll first need to navigate to the Eir broadband fault form page and fill in all the correct details to get the problem dealt with as quickly as possible:
- Personal Details
You will need to provide the name of the account holder (in most cases this will be the person paying for the broadband bills) and your email address with your home address. You’ll also need to fill in your mobile number. - Account Details
When filling in your account details, you’ll need to make sure you fill in your account number that you can usually find this on a bill or on your My Eir account. - Fault Description
You then need to detail the problem with your Eir broadband. You’ll get a dropdown showing you a list of possible problems you might have. You should pick the ‘Fault’ option. Then you should explain the fault in the text box below. You can also attach pictures, screenshots or documents to the form.
After you have filled out the form, you should make sure you confirm that you are an Eir account holder and then click the ‘Submit’ button below. You’ll need to wait around 48 hours for a reply.
What About Eir Report Fault Phone Number?
If you really need your fault to be fixed as soon as possible, you can call the Eir fault line instead. All you need to do is call the Eir contact number 1901 and you’ll be attended by Eir’s technical team who will help you out with your problem straight away.
Why Is My Eir Data Not Working?
If you’re using an Eir mobile device or you use an Eir mobile broadband connection and it suddenly stopped working, you might need to go through a different set of steps than for the router. Again, the reason why you might lose connection could be down to a number of different reasons.
How Do I Solve the Eir Network Down on My Phone?
If you’re using a mobile device, you might need to change a couple of settings on your phone or take it into a shop to get it fixed. You should remember to check the following:
- Your Signal
If you’re wandering around outside, you might just have entered an area where the Eir coverage is really bad. You should move around a little to see if the signal bars on your phone change at all while you’re standing somewhere else. - Check Your Data Allowance
It might just be that your mobile data has run out. Usually, you are limited to a certain number of GBs according to your contract, and it might just be the case that you’ve run out of your limit. - Double Check Your Mobile Settings
Sometimes phones do weird things. You should check your mobile data settings to make sure it's switched on. You should also have a look at your Access Point Name (APN) settings to make sure they're correctly showing data.myeirmobile.ie and the username and password are blank. - Check for Damages to Your Phone
If you knock or drop your phone, it’s possible the antenna in the device has been damaged and can’t receive a signal. If you’ve recently dropped your phone and it’s no longer working, it might be worth taking it to get fixed.
How Do I Solve the Eir Network Down on my Mobile Broadband?
If you’re using an Eir mobile broadband and have a broadband box at home, the process of fixing is quite similar to that of fixing your mobile phone connection. You’ll need to make sure to check for problems with the device as well as update the settings. Unlike your phone, you will need to check the APN on your My Eir account where you’ll have access to the details.
What is an Access Point Number (APN)? All phones with a SIM card will need to connect to the mobile network. The APN is like the address for your phone to send and receive data and is different for each carrier. You can usually find the APN information in your devices setting by looking under Mobile Network and then in Access Point Names.

How Do I Reset My Eir Broadband Router?
Having your broadband router on for a long time might cause it to become a little bit buggy. This is normal, but you might need to reset your router if your Eir broadband is down. However, you should make sure you know exactly what you want to do before proceeding with a reset.
Should I Reset or Restart My Eir Broadband Router?
You can either reset your Eir router or restart it, given what you want to do. If you do a simple restart, all that you’ll need to do is the following:
- Turn off the router by pressing the power button at the back
- Wait around 1 to 5 minutes
- Turn it back on again.
This will reboot your router with all the settings that it had before it was turned off. This straight restart usually works to solve any problems you might have.
Can I Do a Full Eir Broadband Reset?
If you’re still having problems and your Eir broadband is still down after restarting, you can try doing a full reset. However, you should make sure that you are sure that you want to do a full reset because your device’s setting will be wiped and you’ll need to configure it again. Here are the steps for resetting your router:
- Find the Reset Button
You’ll need to find the Reset Button on the back of the router. You can find this next to the Power Button in a tiny hole. You will need to grab a pin or paper clip in order to press it. - Hold Down Reset Button
With the pin or paper clip, hold down the button for 10 to 20 seconds until the lights on the front start flashing. When they start flashing, release the reset button. - Let the Router Restart
You’ll need to let the router restart itself, taking around about two minutes. You should wait until all the lights have turned green and everything back online. You’ll then need to make sure you set up your router again.
How Can I Fix Slow Eir Broadband?
Sometimes the problem isn’t that the Eir network is down, but that it’s really slow. If your Eir network is slow, it can be down to a number of factors, but as a provider Eir is required by Comreg to provide the speeds advertised on the contract. However, this is only if it's the fault of Eir rather than a problem at home.
What Affects My Eir Broadband Speed?
A number of factors can influence your broadband’s speed. If you’re struggling to get a good fast connection, you should consider the following to be at fault:
- The Speeds Contracted
Unlike mobile contracts, you usually pay for a certain speed for your broadband rather than the amount of data you can use. In typical Eir fibre broadband contracts, you can use unlimited amounts of data but to varying speeds. If your speed is slow for your household, you might want to consider switching to faster speeds. - Home Size
Often big houses have problems with connectivity and speed since a WiFi router is only strong enough to cover a small area. You should put the router in an area that is closest to where you’ll most use it or you can buy WiFi boosters that carry the signal around the house for you. - Network Coverage
Not all companies cover the same amount of ground when it comes to broadband. Despite Eir being the biggest, there are areas in Ireland they don’t reach where Virgin Media might. You should see what your neighbours have and consider switching broadband providers to one whose coverage is better for your area.
If you’re concerned about the speeds you're receiving, it might be worth doing a quick broadband speed test to find out if you're getting the speeds you’re paying for. Speeds fluctuate from time to time, but you should be getting what your contract states you're getting. If your speeds with Eir broadband are repeated underperforming, you may be able to end you contract without having to worry about a penalty fee or an Eir price increase.
